U.S. Infrastructure: How Will the Nation Satisfy Growing Demand with Limited Funds?

A New Special Study from IHS Global Insight

Across the United States, the demands on local infrastructure continue to grow, as the general condition of bridges, highways, and other key structures further deteriorates. Given the deepening recession, the pressures of an expanding population, and the financial problems facing the Highway Trust Fund, how are we going to finance critical projects over the next 10 years?

In this study, our construction experts will:
  • Explore the current state of U.S. infrastructure—are we in a crisis, and what must be spent in order to keep up with demand?
  • Examine the outlook for infrastructure demand—what types of infrastructure do we need the most?
  • Consider public-private partnerships as a future financing option for infrastructure projects.
As the demand for infrastructure increases and costs skyrocket, government can no longer foot the bill on its own. Public-private partnerships—typically associated with road, bridge, and railroad infrastructure projects—are common and successful financing options in other areas of the world but have just recently been considered in the United States.

U.S. Infrastructure: How Will the Nation Satisfy Growing Demand with Limited Funds? is one of a series of special construction reports scheduled to be released by IHS Global Insight in December 2008 and January 2009. This 25+ page report costs $950 and will be delivered as a downloadable PDF file.
