Global Risk

Global Insight, together with its client Statoil, developed a methodology for Statoil to perform consistent evaluations of projects across countries. The Global Risk Service from Global Insight provided the foundation for the development of this methodology. The resulting applications provide the measurements of risk in financial terms (risk-adjusted values, country risk premiums, etc.) that were needed by the client's enterprise risk management systems.

Global Insight was approached by Statoil, a Norwegian-based company that produces over one million barrels of oil and gas per day with operations in many countries, to develop applications that measure the exposure to country risk of their investment projects. Statoil has been a leader in the area of enterprise risk management (ERM) and with the expansion of its international operations, the need for a reliable way of evaluating country risk became very important.

The results of this partnership are summarized in the article co-authored by Eyvind Aven and Stian Floerenaes of Statoil, which was published by the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) in the May/June 04 Issue 18 of its publication Risk Review.
