New 2008 Trade & Transportation Initiatives!
Making Sense of Freight Transportation
Global Insight's Trade & Transportation team provides the most comprehensive coverage of global and domestic freight transportation. Companies around the world use our data and analyses to make better decisions regarding freight planning, infrastructure investment, supply chain logistics, and global trade.
Over the last year, we have worked hard to expand our data coverage and make it easier to access information for analysis and projects. Below is a quick review of recent improvements.
U.S. Inland Trade Monitor
New! A Global Insight exclusive!
The only database that shows where imports and exports are going to and coming from in the U.S. by port
This one-of-a-kind database is now available. The
U.S. Inland Trade Monitor provides import and export trade flows by country, commodity, and U.S. ports. It also tracks these flows to/from ultimate U.S. hinterland locations. Forecasts of these flows are available and are useful for freight planning, port development, and capital investment. View our demo at

Transearch
Your only source for U.S. freight transportation movement
TRANSEARCH is the only database available showing freight movement in the United States by county, commodity, and mode. The new
TRANSEARCH database for 2007 will be available in August. We are releasing much earlier than previous years to better assist our users in their planning process. View our demo at

World Trade Service
The most comprehensive database and forecast of world trade available today
Global Insight's World Trade Service - with its database of international freight flows and quarterly forecasts - can summarize the outlook for global trade and for specific trade routes around the world. Using our new data retrieval tools, you can download specific data, create custom maps, develop your own charts, and easily perform complex calculations. Call us for a demo.
Global Insight's Consulting Services
Each year, our experts work with government agencies, shippers, ports, and freight carriers to deliver a wide range of custom consulting assignments. We are currently working on over 30 consulting projects and anticipate we will have done about 200 over the course of 2008. Here are a few of the projects we are currently working on:
- Transport Canada: The Canadian Government has asked us to lead a team to develop a comprehensive freight transportation database and long term forecast - integrating a wide range of government, proprietary, and Global Insight freight data as a foundation for the work. This will be an important transportation infrastructure planning tool at all levels of government in Canada.
- Memphis Infrastructure Plan: Global Insight is leading the team conducting an inventory of the city's freight and telecommunications infrastructure and will be recommending future capacity improvements.
- Lower Mississippi Port-Wide Trade Resumption/Resiliency: Global Insight is part of a team that is looking at the impact a disruptive regional event, like a hurricane, could have on the Lower Mississippi ports and its related distribution network. The goal is to identify weak points in the system that can be corrected through strategic investment.
